Our Team
I try to create wines that suit our climate and our way of life – wines to drink with the food we grow, make and eat.
– Spectra
Spectra winery was realised to focus on our passion for the region and its ability to produce dry – grown and environmentally sustainable wine. Recently a new home was established on our holistic philosophy to winemaking which starts with climate, empahasises the importance on the vineyard, as well as wine’s relation to the food we love to grow, cook, and eat.
Lance Randolph-4th Generation Peirano, Owner/Farmer/Winemaker/General Manager
Lance, fourth generation Peirano, owner, farmer, and winemaker, has been involved with the family’s estate since the age of four when he began learning the art of winemaking from his father Randy. By the age of six, Lance was driving tractors through the Peirano family vineyards. In 1992, he began making wine with the grapes from the family’s 300 acre estate. After receiving considerable praise for making quality wine, he decided to start bottling and selling Peirano wine using solely the estate grown grapes. Initially, he planned on producing only 540 cases, which he predicted was enough to last him for the rest of his lifetime. Presently, Peirano Estate Vineyards produces 62,000 cases a year.
Lance has made himself a household name not only for his great winemaking skills but for his ability to tame the wrath of the weather god’s by wearing his sacrificial Red Shorts beginning April 1st of every year. He religiously wears them, rain or shine, everyday thereafter until every grower in Lodi completes their harvest in late fall to protect the crops from harvest rains.
Lance is a man on a mission. His mission is to make the best wine to come out of the Lodi Appellation. To many, he has already achieved this goal. Lance, on the other hand, is not satisfied. He promises to continue challenging himself and bettering his crop, while adhering to his great grandfather Giacomo’s old farming practices, for many years to come.
